Drunkenness. Even in Africa, even even in the global south, there was this sense that finally there was this pivot towards the west, right? Towards the Western experience, and more than anything, towards modernity. Yes, that was the concept. There was absolutely no understanding or criticism or very little about globalization as a bad thing, potentially. All right, or is a pernicious force or something that might have unintended consequences. Right. And 20 years later, it's interesting to see how those unintended consequences did come about. And instead of people thinking about globalization as an unfettered, unthought through unregulated flood, that pivot towards the west became something far more realizable than it was before the beginning of globalization. Because you had the Internet, you had access to this projection of hegemonic American culture, which was a real tool of soft power, but had the unintended consequence of making people really familiar and able to kind of navigate and traverse these Western societies. So these people, then came. These people came. But the nature of immigration, the nature of people's movement over the past 20 years because of a host of factors, including in the Middle east and North Africa, revolution and war, as well as economic crises all over the world, meant that people in host countries saw these movements a as unique, new, entirely novel phenomenons, phenomena. And instead of making these connections, which I don't think are particularly sophisticated things to make, I don't think these are like highfalutin, abstract Davos type concepts. An economic model, an economic crisis and globalization has fundamentally changed labor relations and capital movement and human movement around the world. In tandem with that has deteriorated and eroded a certain mode of living and a certain lifestyle that we thought was.
